Test Execution Performance¶
Smoke Tests (Pre-Commit)¶
- Count: ~50 critical tests
- Duration: < 30 seconds
- Purpose: Catch common regressions before PR
- Markers:
@pytest.mark.smoke
Full Suite¶
- Count: 916+ tests
- Duration: ~40 seconds
- Coverage: 95%+ on all tested modules
- Markers: All markers except
@pytest.mark.slow
CI Gate¶
- Trigger: On every push to main; selective tests on PR
- Checks:
- Full test suite must pass
- Coverage must be ≥ 95% (on main branch pushes only; PR validation uses
-m "ci"marker) - Linting must pass (ruff)
- Type checking must pass (mypy)
- Duration: ~2-3 minutes
Quality Standards Applied¶
All tests meet these standards:
✅ Real Assertions: Every test verifies actual behavior ✅ No Internal Mocking: Only external boundaries (HTTP, GPU, filesystem) mocked ✅ Fast: Individual tests < 5 seconds, full suite < 2 minutes ✅ Isolated: No cross-test dependencies or shared state ✅ Clear: Test names describe what's being tested ✅ Documented: Module-level docstrings in every test file ✅ Tagged: Proper pytest markers for categorization
CI/CD Integration¶
Tests are integrated with GitHub Actions:
Workflows¶
- Push to Main: Full test suite with 95% coverage gate, linting, type checking
- Pull Request: Selected tests via
-m "ci"marker, linting, type checking (no coverage gate) - Documentation: Link integrity checks on docs changes
- Security: SAST scanning on code changes
Coverage Tracking¶
- Codecov integration for per-commit tracking
- HTML reports available in CI workflow artifacts
- Coverage XML uploaded to Codecov service
How to Maintain Coverage¶
-
Before Committing Code
-
Before Creating PR
-
Adding New Code
- Write tests first (TDD) or immediately after
- Aim for 80%+ coverage on new modules
-
Mark complex tests with
@pytest.mark.slowif > 5s -
Adding Docstrings
